Blades Skate to Easy Win

Blades Defeat Beacon HIll 8-0
By D. Glazer

The Blades came out in force, and Steph grabbed her first win and first shutout of the season, in our third game of the year.

We had three lines up and back and it showed as everyone played with energy and speed.

Kelly, centering Karyn and Tanya, set the tone early in the game, scoring off a face-off in the offensive end. In the end, Kelly finished with four goals. Tanya skated the puck with intensity, carrying it out of our end over and over again, and had THREE of the primary assists on Kelly’s goals. Karyn had several good chances around the front of the net, and although they didn’t go in, they should have!

Alyssa and Nina, with Laurie at center, had a number of opportunities, including at least two full break-a-ways for Alyssa. Laurie played fierce, battling along the boards to clear the puck and Nina was tough on the wing and caused at least a dozen neutral zone turnovers.

And the re-united line of Meredith, Lora and Liz looked as sharp as ever. Lora had a pretty goal in the 2nd period on a break-away but the highlight was in the 3rd period, when they were moving the puck around the offensive zone, passing back and forth along the wall – when Cassidy stepped into the slot, called for the puck (we heard her from the bench!) and received a beautiful pass from Liz that she buried in the back of the net. Liz also added a nifty goal to her tally for the evening, on an assist from Lora.

On defense, Clare stepped back (and stepped it up!) and had a terrific game on both ends but especially in their zone, where she was making precision passes back and forth with Lora and taking several shots on net. Sarah and Laura A. were a well-matched pair. Laura had some great moments keeping the puck in the zone, and Sarah had an AWESOME breakaway. And Cassidy, playing with Carol Anne, was a force on the ice, out-skating everyone, and scoring her first goal of the season – wahoo! Carol Anne held the line several times and allowed Cassidy to take chances in their end, which paid off in a goal.

Overall, it was a terrific effort – and it was also great fun!
